Engaging with the local University community
25th November 2019
In a recent article, we covered how Norwich has long been a ‘hub’ for legal indemnity insurance. Beginning with Norwich Union (now Aviva) developing products in the city in the 1990s, to the present day with the numerous underwriting agencies and brokers with presence in Norwich.
As a result of the wealth of experienced underwriters in the area, Norwich was the obvious place for DUAL Asset to set up its regional office in October 2015. The rest, as they say, is history, as the office has grown from the original team of four to thirteen today, and continues to grow as DUAL Asset consolidates it place as a leader in the legal indemnity market.
While there are and always will be a wealth of experienced underwriters based in Norwich, at DUAL Asset we are looking to bring on the next generation of underwriters.
The DUAL Asset team already includes some of the most experienced and forward thinking underwriters in the market (that include former lawyers, brokers, and underwriters who have spent most of their career in the legal indemnity field), but one of our recent recruits has been Megan Eustace, who joined us as a law graduate from the University of East Anglia (UEA).
Megan was able to make an immediate impact and got us thinking, why don’t we see if we can work together with the UEA Law School and nurture the next generation of legal indemnity underwriters in Norwich?
We attended the law school earlier this year to present to the law students, explaining how the nature of our business means we work closely with legal property professionals, and how it might be considered as a great alternative career for students to use their law degree. This resulted in us offering work experience opportunities to the students, and having received a significant amount of interest following the presentation, we had two law students in their final year join us for a week’s work experience.
We were delighted to receive positive feedback from both, who were extremely grateful for their time at DUAL Asset, and we are even more delighted to confirm that we have offered a permanent position to one of them.
Hopefully, this is the start of a successful relationship with the UEA law school, and we look forward to working with them in the future.
